Spring in Reno, 2024 - Easter Hunts & Activities, Earth Day, Cinco de Mayo, & More

*Updated 4/17/24

Hello Everyone,

Spring in Reno, is a time of rejuvenation and outdoor bliss. With mild temperatures and blossoming landscapes, it's the perfect season to step outside and embrace nature's beauty.

However, its beauty is fleeting, lasting only about two to three months.  I always love seizing the moment to make the most of this beautiful season while it lasts.

Whether hiking in the Sierra Nevada mountains, enjoying a leisurely bike ride along the Truckee River, or savoring fresh produce at a farmers' market, spring in Reno offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature and celebrate the vibrant life of the season.
My Favorite things to do during spring:
*Admire wildflowers - you won't believe how many unique wildflowers you'll see on Hunter Creek Trail. A short drive to Carson City to the capitol building will be worth your while.
*Seasonal foods - Engine 8 Brewery has a delicious Spicy Conductor pizza that comes with candied jalapenos and a hot honey drizzle. Sip on the flavors of spring at Old World Coffee, Star Village Coffee, Coffeebar, Pangolin Cafe, & The Lodge.
*Riverside Farmer's Market is a favorite activity year-round, especially during spring when everyone starts coming out of their caves, LOL
*Exploring open trails before the summer heat sets in. We have lots of  beautiful open trails in Reno to take advantage of.
*Gardening - did you know that cherry tomatoes are so easy to grow and are so fun to snack on throughout summer.  Visit our rad local nurseries: Moana Nursery, Old Stone House, catch the annual seedling sale at Great Basin Co-op
*River walks are so calming. #spoiled.  A good river spot - Barbara Bennett Park.
*A good read on a lawn & under a tree can be magical. Check out Sundance Books & Music & Barbara Bennet Park.
*Dust the bikes off and get moving - The Tahoe Pyramid trail follows the Truckee River and runs throughout our city. It's pretty epic.
*Bird Watching - Rosewood Nature Study Center, Oxbow Nature Center, Virginia Lake Park, &Rancho San Rafael Park are all great places to find some wildlife to enjoy.
*Movies - they can compliment the positive feelings of renewal that come with spring.  Have you watched these hits yet? - Pride n Prejudice, Big Fish, Into the Wild, A Walk in the Clouds?  My favorite theater is Galaxy Theater at The Outlets at Legends.  They have comfy reclining seats, food + beverages & promos.  Also, can't help but watch new releases IMAX style.
*Easter festivities - join in on the excitement with the whole community.  We do holidays justice.
*Plan for summer trips - Yosemite National Park is only 3.5 hours away form us.  Can you believe it? Book camp sites at least 6 months in advance.  Tioga Pass is the entrance closest to us.  Check online for latest updates on when the snow clear and the pass opens up.  Looking for a proper staycation?  Lake Tahoe is practically in our backyards.  Looking for big city life?  Sacramento is just 2 hrs. away, SF, 3.5hrs.
*Baby Animal Days at Andelin Farm - Have you ever fed baby goats with bottles and held baby chicks? You'll be thrilled by this experience. Recommended for all genders, all ages, and everyone, period.

Please check back for any updates.
Hope you have a wonderful spring,
Kat

Wildfires:
Last year, we were fortunate to experience minimal summer disruptions from wildfires in 2023. However, conditions can shift swiftly. It's unpredictable when fires might drive indoor confinement.  This is one big reason I love to seize every moment of spring.

Below, I've compiled events and locations that may be overlooked by a simple Google search for things to do in Reno this spring. Tickets and reservations fill up quick, so I recommend securing yours promptly for any events that catch your eye.

For more gems, I invite you to follow me on Instagram.

Riverside Farmer's Market
*Location:
Idlewild Park
 2055 Idlewild Dr,
Reno, NV 89509

Riverside Farmer's Market is our year-round market, home to a wide variety of amazing small businesses, including services, farmers, food trucks, crafters, bakers, and other artisans.

During major events, Riverside Farmer's Market pulls out all the stops, creating an amazing atmosphere with entertainment for adults and children alike.

Mother's Day Boutique and Fall Festival are their biggest markets of the year, though every other market contains just as much magic.  It's really the village vibes that make this market appealing year-round.

At the upcoming boutique, enjoy live music from local musicians, participate in free classes, get the children busy with fun and engaging crafts, and treat your taste buds to an array of delightful cuisines, all while finding everything you need for an unforgettable Mother's Day celebration.

It's important to note that the market's home, Idlewild Park, is one of our biggest and most dynamic parks in Reno, worthy of a visit all on its own.  Just imagine adding a village market in the middle of all this natural beauty.

Notes:

- I always aim to arrive early to events to secure the best parking spot, although there is a good amount available at Idlewild Park.

- For those who plan on shopping, tote bags will come in handy, or better yet, bringing a stroller (guardians) does wonders for keeping your hands free.

- If you're a fellow foodie, come to the market hungry

- Vegetarians and vegans, there are plenty of finds for you at this market.
- This market prioritizes all things and people local, wholesome, all natural, and organic

Our unique Riverside Farmer's Market, operating year-round, was established by @premafarm, a local organic farm, with the goal of offering a gathering place for local farmers, crafters, and artisans to showcase and share their goods and services with the community.

*Learn How to Ski & Snowboard at one of Our Nearby Local Resorts
You don't have to be a skier or snowboarder to appreciate the fantastic ski resorts near Reno. However, if you've never tried skiing or snowboarding, there's no better place to learn than here, with our numerous beautiful and convenient ski resorts.

Families with young children may find skiing or snowboarding to be a rewarding activity, as little ones often pick up the skills quickly.

I witnessed firsthand how much joy it brought my son and daughter during their first ski lesson at the start of the season. They declared it was the best day of their lives.

After taking a lesson myself, I completely understood their excitement. There's something magical about gliding down the slopes in a picturesque outdoor setting, especially when shared with loved ones.

The village is loaded with shops, activities, and dining spots.
